The Fully Involved 5K is a run/walk that will be held on December 8th at 10:00 AM. The race is being created by Senior Alex Kreh at Madison County High School in cooperation with Madison County Parks and Recreation. Runners can purchase “First On-Scene” tickets online for $20 and will get a T-shirt for the event. After November 28th, these tickets will no longer be available, however, tickets can be purchased at the event, $20 for adults and $10 for kids.
All proceeds from the event will go towards providing wigs and care packages and other necessities to families that are affected by cancer and may not be able to afford these things. Many people are affected by cancer in some way in their lifetime, in fact, firefighters have a 9% higher risk of being diagnosed with cancer and a 14% higher mortality rate. Some are affected during their career and some are affected after retirement from the exposure to carcinogenic material they are around daily. One of the most deadly events in United States history still kills people today as firefighters responding in NYC on 9/11 are seeing the effects of the smoke and ash they inhaled. Today, more preventative measures are being put in place to keep firefighters safer than ever before and help reduce the risk of illness on the job.
